Video of Feb. 13 Capitol Hill Briefing: “How Will Tax Credits Fare through Tax Reform?”

On Monday, TCWF joined Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity to host a bipartisan briefing on the future of tax credits for low-wage workers as Congress weighs tax reform. (If you were unable to attend you can watch a full video of the event here.)

Jeremy Lippert, legislative director for Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO), provided keynote remarks on behalf of the Congressman, who has sponsored bipartisan legislation to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for workers without dependent children. Following Jeremy’s remarks, a panel of experts on both sides of the aisle discussed how the EITC and other credits have fared through tax reform under prior administrations, and what that might portend for their future during upcoming tax policy debates.

The panel discussion featured:

  • Jared Bernstein, Senior Fellow, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
  • Alan Cole, Economist, The Tax Foundation
  • Ramesh Ponnuru, Senior Editor, National Review magazine
  • Isabel Sawhill, Senior Fellow, Economic Studies, the Brookings Institution
  • Moderator: Bill Nichols, Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity
