News Round-Up: April 1, 2019


Here are some highlights from the past week’s news and upcoming events on family tax credit issues:

Top Story: A Montana  House panel passed an amended version of a bill  to sunset many individual and corporate tax credits by 2023, which removed the state Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) from the list of credits at risk. (Montana Legislature)

  • Oregon State Representative Shelly Boshart Davis (R-Albany) introduced legislation to create a state-level Child Tax Credit worth $1,000 per child, which would be refundable for families with income that is  at least150 percent of the federal poverty line. (KTVZ)
  • Members of the Oregon “Renew And Raise” campaign have been releasing a series of videos to encourage lawmakers to renew the state’s EITC, which is scheduled to expire next year, and increase the size of the credit.
  • The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) examined state-led efforts to improve residents’ health by advancing policy measures such as enacting and improving state-level EITCs, increasing minimum wages and improving paid sick leave and paid family leave. (CBPP)
